Job Title: Estimator – Electrical Testing & Commissioning
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Estimator to join our electrical testing and commissioning team in Hamilton, NJ. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, proposals, and quotations for projects involving electrical power systems testing, commissioning, and maintenance. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure successful project delivery for projects located in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating & Proposals

- Review project specifications, drawings, RFQs, and scope documents to determine testing and commissioning requirements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and travel expenses.
- Prepare competitive and accurate bid proposals in line with industry standards and company objectives.
- Track bid outcomes, provide feedback to management, and adjust estimating approaches as needed.
- Technical & Industry Knowledge

- Interpret and apply standards such as NETA, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, and local utility requirements.
- Understand testing procedures for high-voltage breakers, transformers, protective relays, switchgear, control systems, and grounding systems.
- Stay current with pricing trends, labor escalation, and vendor/supplier costs.
- Collaboration & Communication

- Work closely with project managers, field engineers, and clients to define scope, clarify deliverables, and minimize risks.
- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing.
- Support handoff of successful bids to project execution teams.
- Administrative & Reporting

- Maintain a database of historical pricing, labor hours, and project outcomes for benchmarking.
- Develop and refine estimating templates, tools, and processes for efficiency.
- Generate reports for management summarizing estimate accuracy, hit rates, and bid pipeline.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent technical experience considered.
- Experience:

- Experience in estimating or project management within the electrical contracting, testing, or commissioning industry.
- Familiarity with NETA-based electrical testing, acceptance/maintenanceprograms, and utility/interconnection requirements.
- Skills:

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, estimating software, and project management tools.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits required.
- Must be able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to occasionally travel to client or vendor sites for scope review.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary starts at $75,000 up to $250,000 and based off experience
